National painting contest Vila de Pego

The Vila de Pego Painting Contest is managed in 1975, as a way of thanking José Mª Pascual in the town of Pego, for the distinction of the Favorite Son, granted by the City Council to his person for the economic successes of His company "Pascual Hermanos", leader in those times of the Valencian trade.

The Pego Contest in its first edition of 1976 houses five hundred and eight works by artists, many of them of recognized prestige, proof of the good reception in the world of art.

"Until now, Pego was an agricultural landmark, also a tourist destination, but from now Pego is a national attraction with cultural charisma, very exciting" Levante -1976-.       "It is a sign that they would have wanted many important European capitals for themselves. The call had all the attractions a Qualifying Jury, full of important names of the international critic and a considerable economic endowment." Las Provincias.

They were members of the Jury, among others: Luis Arcas, Joaquin Michavila, Arcadi Blasco, Ramón de Soto, Eusebio Sempere, Mario Caldela, Antoni Miró, José Mª Yturralde, Horacio Silva, Castejón, Maria Fernanda Manglano, Salvador Soria, José Esteve Edo, Manuel Baeza, Nasio Bayarri, Alexandre Cirisi, Vicente Aguilera Cerni, Maria José Corominas, Santiago Amón, José Garneria, Rosa Martínez de Lahidalga, J.
